Description
The Maisonneuve Library, located in the historic former City Hall of Montreal’s Maisonneuve district, combines heritage preservation with modern sustainability. Originally built in 1912 in the Beaux-Arts style, the building has been carefully restored and expanded with two new glass wings, tripling its area to 3,700 m².
This ambitious transformation introduced new public amenities, including a community room, café, media lab, entertainment room for school groups, and a rooftop garden. The project targets LEED® Gold certification, aligning with Montreal’s sustainability goals.
The façade features Saint-Gobain Glass advanced glazing solutions:
COOL-LITE® SKN 176 II, sourced from Saint-Gobain Glass Mexico, offering an optimal balance of daylight, solar control, and neutrality.
COOL-LITE® SKN 076 II on DIAMANT® extra-clear glass, imported from Saint-Gobain Glass Germany, ensuring maximum transparency to showcase the historic architecture from outside to inside.
These solutions are central to the library’s energy performance and Net Zero objectives, minimizing energy consumption while ensuring comfort, daylight, and visual connection with the heritage building.
Today, the Maisonneuve Library stands as a cultural and sustainable landmark, where historic preservation and forward-looking design come together to serve the community.

DIAMANT®
DIAMANT is a matchless extra clear glass that is appreciated for its appealing appearance and optical characteristics.
The low iron content generates a higher transmission of light and the green tint characteristic of ordinary glass is significantly reduced.
