Noise control laminated safety glass

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

STADIP SILENCE® is a laminated safety glass with acoustic performance. It consists of at least two glass sheets bonded together with one or more Polyvinyl Butyral (PVB) including special acoustic PVB interlayer (PVB Silence), providing thus excellent insulation against noise.

BENEFITS & APPLICATIONS

Acoustic comfort in buildings is crucial for undisturbed work, relaxation, and living. Controlling noise levels impacts health, productivity, and concentration, as excessive noise can cause stress and sleep disturbances.  In any building type, managing glazing acoustic performance enhances overall quality of life and functionality of the space.
STADIP SILENCE® is essential for creating a calm and safe environment.

  • The special acoustic PVB interlayer filters sound waves around the critical frequency of glass, to effectively keep out intrusive sounds, ensuring tranquility to work, live and sleeping in peace.
  • Combined with standard PVB, STADIP SILENCE® also provides standard safety performances of a laminated glass as well as protection against UV to avoid the bleaching effect of sun.

STADIP SILENCE® can be used as monolithic glass; it can also be integrated in double, or triple glazed units, to reach higher level of sound insulation in residential or non-residential buildings.

STADIP SILENCE® is equally suited for internal as well as external use.

  • GLASS FACADES AND WINDOWS: STADIP SILENCE® is particularly well suited near noisy areas like frequented streets or airports, as it contributes to the reduction of the impact of external noise. It is ideal for areas exposed to high levels of noise pollution, such as shopping streets.
  • OVERHEAD GLAZING: STADIP SILENCE® reduces impact noise from rain and hail on roof windows and overhead glazing.
  • INTERNAL PARTITIONS: As interior partitions in offices or meeting rooms, a single pane of STADIP SILENCE® can lessen the sound until 47 dB, depending on its thickness. Offering both security and acoustic performances, STADIP SILENCE® also offers numerous opportunities for creative designs and customization.

APPEARANCE

STADIP SILENCE® has the same appearance as awaited from standard laminated glass. Once transformed, PVB and acoustic PVB are perfectly transparent and invisible to the naked eye and does not alter the appearance of the product, especially when a coating is implemented.

TECHNICAL INFORMATION

RANGE

STADIP SILENCE® is available in standard jumbo size (PLF) comprising:

  • 2 sheets of glass from 2 to 12mm (potentially coated)
  • Up to 6 interlayers (2,28mm) and at least one acoustic PVB

STADIP SILENCE® is proposed on all Saint-Gobain Glass substrates (PLANICLEAR®, DIAMANT®, ORAÉ®) and can be associated with other glass products, offering variety of multi-functional glazing options, including:

  • Solar control (e.g., COOL-LITE®) for commercial buildings.
  • Thermal insulation (e.g., PLANITHERM® or ECLAZ®) for residential buildings
  • Self-cleaning  (e.g., BIOCLEAN®)

PROCESSING

STADIP SILENCE® can be cut and processed in the same way as regular laminated glass.

STADIP SILENCE® is also available in cut-size, from Saint-Gobain Glassolutions or Vetrotech processing network, and can embrace added functionalities.

The special acoustic PVB interlayer (PVB Silence) can be associated to one or more standard PVB interlayer, thus providing further mechanical properties to STADIP SILENCE®, comparable to the properties achievable with STADIP PROTECT®.

According to EN 12758 - All acoustic performances are tested and certified in acoustic test reports and can be requested through Saint-Gobain Glass.

Following parameters are commonly used to indicate how effective a material is based on the amount of sound that can be transmitted through it or not:

  • Rw, or Weighted Sound Reduction Index is assessing the reduction of noise moving through a glazing. It rates the sound transmission loss, for each frequency (level) of noise. The higher the transmission loss, the better the sound insulation performance.
  • C and Ctr are adjustment factors which were introduced to adapt sound insulation measures to certain standard noise sources; this allows the respective noise situation to be specifically addressed at the planning stage. The weighted sound insulation values are corrected with the spectrum adjustment value. Ctr is used to account for low frequency noise, such as road traffic- typically the biggest problem with sound insulation. Ctr is always a negative number, so the Rw+Ctr= Ra,tr will always be lower than the Rw value.

In order to help to choose the best glazing, the acoustic performances are also part of the data that can be found in our online glass calculator www.calumen.com.

STADIP® SILENCE comply with the EN 14449 Glass in building; This product receives the CE-Marking. The Declaration Of Performance (DOP) of each product CE marked is available at the web site: www.saint-gobain-dop-glass.com/ce
