Description
The Vienna Museum on Karlsplatz has undergone a transformative renovation that seamlessly blends historic preservation with modern sustainability. A striking floating concrete extension nearly doubles the museum’s floor space to 12,000 m², while a new glass pavilion strengthens its connection to the surrounding urban environment.
All glazed areas between the interior and exterior feature SageGlass® Classic smart glass, an innovative solution that optimizes natural daylight while minimizing heat gain. By dynamically adapting to weather conditions, the glass reduces reliance on air conditioning and artificial lighting, ensuring a stable indoor climate that is crucial for the conservation of historic exhibits.
The design preserves the museum’s traditional architecture while integrating a timeless glazing solution that protects the interior from excessive light and heat. In addition, renewable energy systems for heating and cooling make the museum almost energy self-sufficient.
This ambitious renovation not only safeguards the building’s architectural heritage but also aligns with modern energy efficiency standards, reflecting Vienna’s strong commitment to sustainability.
