Saint-Gobain Glass publishes new PLANICLEAR® EPD with 17% lower CO₂ emissions
Saint-Gobain Glass announces the release of an updated Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) for PLANICLEAR®, its clear glass substrate.
The new EPD shows a 17% reduction in CO₂ emissions (A1–A3) compared to the previous publication in 2021, corresponding to a carbon footprint of 9.1 kg CO₂eq/m² for 4 mm glass.
This EPD is based on data production across 10 float plants in Europe, covering France, Germany, Italy, Spain, the United Kingdom, Poland and Romania.
The reduction in CO₂ emissions reflects continuous progress in Saint-Gobain Glass industrial operations, including:
• Improved furnace efficiency, driven by recent float repairs and upgrades
• Increased share of low-carbon electricity, supported by Guarantees of Origin and optimized energy sourcing
• Higher recycled glass content, reaching 21% cullet in European float glass
These improvements contribute directly to lowering the carbon footprint of PLANICLEAR® glass.
The updated EPD results are also available in Calumen®, Saint-Gobain Glass’s online glazing configurator, enabling users to estimate the CO₂ footprint of a wide range of glazing configurations.
With this new EPD, Saint-Gobain Glass continues to support customers and partners in reducing the environmental impact of buildings by providing transparent, verified and up-to-date environmental data.
The updated PLANICLEAR® EPD contributes to improved Life Cycle Assessments (LCA) of building projects and supports sustainability certifications and carbon reduction strategies.
Beyond carbon performance, PLANICLEAR® is also Cradle to Cradle Certified® v5.0 across all five performance categories, further supporting sustainable building design.
