The construction industry is a key area that has significant impacts on natural resources availability. Globally, construction accounts for about 40%¹ of raw materials consumption, consequently generating 40%¹ of solid waste streams. Most of this occurs during the construction and renovation/demolition phases and causes significant environmental impacts.
In this context, the need to mitigate such impacts is essential, for the construction industry to move from the current model to a more sustainable one, with an emphasis on adopting circular economy approaches.
Saint-Gobain Group is committed to reducing the consumption of virgin raw materials. Our aim for 2030 is to avoid 30% of non-renewable raw materials in our production by substituting them with secondary materials such as recycled materials. The Group’s actions in favour of the circular economy made it possible to avoid the consumption of 9.952 million tonnes of virgin raw materials in 2021².
At Saint-Gobain Glass, we develop innovative solutions as concrete answers to environmental challenges. We ensure sustainable approaches for the purpose of implementing a circular economy. We believe that as a stakeholder, we are responsible for managing and reducing the impact of resource consumption over the lifecycle of our products and services.
